As a landscape painter, I am continuously trying to express a feeling or mood in nature. To get as close as I can to a “possession” of this beauty, so that I may share it with the viewer,  I paint in plein air to best understand the land, atmosphere, and spatial relationships. Work is often finished in the studio, drawn out from the experience outdoors. I am not so concerned with a literal copy of a site but an emotional response. My use of color is sometimes exaggerated in order to elicit this emotion. Design decisions are made about what to leave in and what to take out of the picture. In the end, I want someone to look at my paintings and take a little journey through them…and a little pleasure.
